Art Across The City invite you to join us on unique musical mystery tour around Swansea, this Saturday, 23rd May at 2pm. Kicking off in our busy Info Hub in Swansea’s Quadrant Shopping Centres, the short walking tour will see a variety of musical performances alongside our art commissions from local musicians including Jemma Krysa, Junior Scully and Joan Jones, with special guests to be added.

This is an excellent opportunity to experience the artworks in a new way or see them for the first time before the exhibition closes on June 1st.

Every Friday, our Art Across The City hub has workshops from ‘the Glitterationists International‘. The Swansea based duo invite you to explore your imagination to create artworks of invader plants. native plants or hybrid plants using collage, text and watercolour.

Today’s workshop has included some beautifully created poems, from the cut outs of plant/gardening magazines which have resulted in some very creative and powerful poems.  Read more…

Here in the Locws Hub there is plenty to see and do! We have opportunities for community interaction, my favourite to look at being Colin Priests ‘memories cloud’.

On a photograph postcard detailing either sand or sky, we are inviting visitors to write down their memories of Swansea bay and local beaches. So far we have had a very interesting response, with memories of summer fun, wet and windy walks and wartime Swansea.

I have seen many people wander into the Hub straight over to the cloud, jot down their memories on a postcard and off they go, like a busy bee paying a quick visit. It is nice to see how different people use the space!

Be sure to pop into the Hub and write down your memories and thoughts! Find us near to the entrance to the bus station, opposite Thorntons in the Quadrant.

Free guided tours around Swansea city centre have been offered to the public as well as schools and colleges in the area. They have been an enjoyable experience for everyone involved, with participants gaining inspiration for their studies, developing different perspectives on art, and others sharing their memories of Swansea in relation to the artworks. We have been busy guiding lots of people of all ages around the city centre, providing them with opportunities for taking photographs, drawing pictures and talking about Swansea.

We are very pleased to have commissioned artist, Matthew Houlding for Art Across The City 2013.

Matthew’s sculptures draw us into a fantastic, retro-futuristic world, inspired by architectural forms and models, modernism and a childhood spent in East Africa. Houlding’s recent sculptures and collages are an homage to the utopian zeal of modern architecture, suggesting an inherent optimism and sublime future.

Juneau Projects was formed in 2001 by artists, Philip Duckworth and Ben Sadler. Their work includes public participation alongside a diverse mix of sculpture, drawing projection, sound, music, animation and installation. They are particularly interested in the rapidly increasing speed of technological development, and its associated obsolescence. Recent work has examined the overlap between performance as musicians, sculpture and installation, an example of which are a series of homemade devices which attempt to function as both sculpture and playable musical instrument. Their new wall-based works examine equipment-fetishism and the DIY processes which facilitate their electronic music.
