Locws Schools 2014/15: YGG Lon Las

We started off the tour with year 5 by  looking and speaking about contrast, composition, shape colour, and space. We also discussed what might have inspired Dylan Thomas in relationship to Cwmdonkin Park.

When I asked what site specific Artwork might mean Aimie replied “is it art for a certain place”. We played around with some ideas in the park regarding ‘Dylan’s pencil’ and also created some drawings of the Artwork.

We had a small bus journey to Pete Fowlers mural work by the Station which also proved to be inspiring. “Is it a Mermaid in the centre of the mural”’ asked Mirain. “Why hasn’t he got arms”,  said Olivia, “Are they war horses”, said Morgan.

Another calming bus journey took us to see the Jeremy Deller art piece’More Poetry is Needed’, where several children asked “is that Art?”.

Back at school we planned the next stages of the development of our art piece .”We decided to make a Pete Fowler type Mural , a sculpture of a pencil made from pencils and lots of collage work.

Every class member got involved with the mural and added their own colourful art pieces. They were all very pleased with the finished product and are going to hang it in the Foyer at the entrance to their school.
