It is with great honour that Locws International are recipients of the first Lord Mayor’s Ambassador Award 2013/14. As recognition for the services provided to children in the City and County of Swansea during the ongoing outreach and education programme, Locws Schools sees primary and secondary schools from the Swansea area take part in site-specific arts projects, Locws Schools is run in conjunction with Arts in Education, City and County of Swansea. The projects are run by artist David Marchant and use Locws International events as inspiration.
The then Right Worshipful Lord Mayor of the City and County of Swansea, Councillor June Stanton presented the award to Locws International and the Locws Schools team in May 2014. Written as a reflection of her year in office, the Lord Mayor mentioned the award in a South Wales Evening Post article:
“Before I finished in office, I had the pleasure of presenting two awards today in recognition of very special work that two organisations undertake for our city. A Lord Mayor gets to present many awards during the year, but never before has a Lord Mayor has presented their own Ambassador Award to recognise those who go beyond expectations. It was so difficult to choose one person or organisation to receive the award, so I chose two! Penybryn Special School and Locws International are two very worthy recipients of becoming the very first organisations to receive the Lord Mayor’s Ambassador Award.
