LOCWS INTERNATIONAL: PRESS RELEASE 22.07.08 Artist investigates the lure of the Sea The sea holds a magnetic power that entices us in hoards to live, work and holiday beside it. The Victorians were so fascinated by the sea that they extended our viewpoint even further by building huge long piers purposefully designed for the act of staring out to sea. The sea and Swansea’s residents’ relationship with it will provide the starting point to a new art project by Jennie Savage, commissioned by Locws International as part of Swansea Festival of Music and the Arts. “Jennie would like to meet people who have a daily connection with the sea and create a ‘Soundtrack to the Sea’” said Grace Davies, Project Manager. “The resulting work will be open to the public throughout the festival in October in a specially designed booth to be located on the Swansea seafront between the Civic Centre and the beach.” Can YOU help?
Artist Jennie Savage is looking for volunteers to take part in a 20-minute
interview/ exercise. Locws International is a visual arts charity that works with artists to create temporary arts projects for public and accessible spaces across the city of Swansea. Each project is designed as a response to the character, culture, stories, heritage and people of the city. For further information visit www.artacrossthecity.com. With support from the Arts Council of Wales and The Esmée Fairbairn Foundation. /Ends Notes to Editors: For further information contact Grace Davies, Project Manager on 01792 468979 or grace@locwsinternational.com for images or further information
