Locws Schools

In conjunction with Arts in Education, City and County of Swansea, Locws Schools sees Schools from the Swansea area take part in site-specific arts projects run by artist David Marchant based on Locws International events

The project offers opportunities for students to visit Locws International events and be guided through the exhibitions by an artist who will discuss some of the thinking behind the artworks and present the ideas and processes of making site-specific work

These guided tours and introductions to Locws International events offer the students an inspiration for creating their own projects that are presented at each school in Locws Schools exhibitions

Educational Tours

In 2007 Locws 3 illustrated a broad range of contemporary artwork on show around Swansea focusing on site-specific work. The artworks, created by international artists using a variety of mediums, provided an extremely interesting tour for students to participate in. The guided tours of the works provided an exciting visual stimuli for students to respond to and to question. With the inspiration gained from the visits, the students were expected to produce a response to a particular artwork or artworks which should be site specific to their own school or college environment

During the guided tours, artist David Marchant encouraged students’ responses to the artworks while they attempted to unravel what the work meant to themselves and what they thought the artist was trying to achieve by the specific piece/s. Each work was explained by Marchant and the students were encouraged to think of how it could adapt to their own school or college environment

During the course of the day, students set themselves a brief which they researched and investigated by day two of their course, David Marchant’s visit to their school or college
