June and July have been exceptionally busy here at Locws with projects rolling out across schools in Swansea. This year our project participants are the stars of Art Across the City and creative public artworks by our participants will be appearing at two different sites in Swansea this summer.

The first of which is a public art piece which will be sited at Morriston Hospital. The schools mural project run in partnership with Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board kicked off in April and is due to be launched on the 12th of July (more details below). We were overwhelmed by the volume and quality of art works we received from schools throughout the city so huge thanks goes out to all those who participated and contributed to the project. We’ve been busy, busy, busy working through all the submissions. The work has now been sent off to the printers ready for installation later this week and we can’t wait to see it!

We’d love to invite anyone who took part to come along to the launch of the mural at Morriston Hospital and we are extremely privileged that the launch will be attended and launched by The Right Worshipful Lord Mayor of the City & County of Swansea Councillor Downing and Mrs Lilian Downing.

Please find below information regarding the event:

Date and time: July 12th at 1:30 pm

Location: Clock Garden behind Ty Olwen on the grounds of Morriston Hospital

Maes Y Gwernan Hall is the suggested drop off point. From there you can walk along the path to the garden . Due to parking challenges it is advisable to allow plenty of time to find parking prior to the commencement of the event which will begin promptly at 1:30.

The hospital advises that children wear hi-vis vests if schools or parents have them.

It would be fantastic if the children could attend the launch and it would be hugely helpful if you could please RSVP to sian@locwsinternational.com by July 5th indicating how many people will be in attendance so we can inform colleagues at the hospital.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions relating to the project or launch.

We are offering the opportunity for school learners to take part in the production of a new public artwork at Morriston Hospital and very much hope that your school will take part.

In partnership with Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board we are asking local learners to create colourful elements of the new artwork that will be sited on a section of hoardings around a new development at the centre of the hospital. We are looking for bold, colourful artworks that will make a vibrant and striking display, appealing to patients, staff and visitors, while the area is undergoing redevelopment.

To enable your school learners to take part, please print out the artwork templates below and invite your learners to colour in, draw on or paint on them either by hand or using a computer. The templates can be done at A4 or A3 as required. Please write the learner’s name and school on the back of each page they do. The look of the finished template artworks are up to each participant but the colourful designs at the bottom of this page could be used as inspiration. Why not ask your learners to think of themes inspired by where they live, their favourite places or things?

NB: This is open to all key stages

A selection of the finished template artworks will be chosen to develop the final mural, which will be scaled up, printed on to panels and fixed to the hoardings at Morriston Hospital. The artwork will be installed in July 2017. Each school which has designs selected will be invited to the hospital to celebrate the results and will be credited on the Art Across The City website and related publicity material.

The deadline for finished artworks to be returned to us is Monday May 22nd, please send by post to: Art Across The City, PO Box 127, Swansea SA3 9BF

or by email to info@artacrossthecity.com

This is a great opportunity for your learners to be involved in making an exciting public artwork which will in turn benefit local people who use Morriston Hospital. We hope you will be interested in participating and we look forward to receiving your artworks.
