‘Art Across The High Street’ is a partnership project with the City & County of Swansea, Swansea BID, Coastal Housing Group and LOCWS International to improve the street scene and contribute to the regeneration of the city’s High Street. LOCWS International has commissioned several artists from Swansea to create a series of artworks on disused retail units and hoardings.

Cllr Chris Holley, Swansea Council Leader, said: “High Street is an important gateway in and out of our city centre and this is why we’re working with LOCWS International and the Coastal Housing Group to improve its look.
“These artworks are making High Street a more pleasant and colourful place to visit.
“The murals complement other schemes in the area that are helping with its regeneration. Work on Coastal Housing’s hugely exciting Urban Village scheme is ongoing, the railway station is being revamped and the outside of businesses like the Grand Hotel, the Monkey Café and Pizza Express have been upgraded.”

David Hastie, LOCWS International Director, said: “All the feedback we’ve had so far about the murals has been overwhelmingly positive. Art tends to play a big part in the regeneration of cities and you only have to look at Liverpool and Hoxton in East London as examples of places where art has kick-started cultural vibrancy.
“We hope to paint more murals on High Street and in other parts of the city centre in future and are confident they will help attract investment and other positive activities.”

Meddai’r Cyng. Chris Holley, Arweinydd Cyngor Abertawe, “Mae’r Stryd Fawr yn borth pwysig i ganol y ddinas ac oddi yno a dyma pam rydym yn gweithio gyda Locws Rhyngwladol a Gr?p Tai Coastal i wella’i gwedd.
“Mae’r gweithiau celf hyn yn gwneud y Stryd Fawr yn lle mwy dymunol a lliwgar i ymweld ag ef.
“Mae’r murluniau’n cyd-fynd â chynlluniau eraill yn yr ardal sy’n helpu i’w hadfywio. Mae gwaith ar gynllun hynod gyffrous Tai Coastal, Pentref Trefol, yn parhau, mae’r orsaf drenau’n cael ei hailwampio ac mae tu allan busnesau fel Gwesty’r Grand, Caffi Monkey a Pizza Express wedi’u gwella.”

Meddai David Hastie, Cyfarwyddwr Locws Rhyngwladol, “Mae’r holl adborth rydym wedi’i gael hyd yn hyn am y murluniau wedi bod yn gadarnhaol dros ben. Mae celf yn tueddu i chwarae rhan fawr wrth adfywio dinasoedd a gallwch edrych ar Lerpwl a Hoxton yn Nwyrain Llundain fel enghreifftiau o fannau lle mae celf wedi rhoi hwb i egni diwylliannol.
“Rydym yn gobeithio paentio mwy o furluniau ar y Stryd Fawr ac mewn rhannau eraill o ganol y ddinas yn y dyfodol ac rydym yn hyderus y byddant yn helpu i ddenu buddsoddiad a gweithgareddau cadarnhaol eraill.”
