Whitestone Primary School Workshops
There were some great ideas on arrival at the school and the children were keen to experiment with materials to create these ideas. Influenced by David Blandy’s artwork ‘The Devil and Dylan Thomas’, a group decided to produce masks based on the characters. They made an impression into earth and then poured in plaster to create mask.A second group wanted to create some 3D Iconic models from chicken wire & ‘mod rock’. They created a rugby ball with their school logo, Eco schools & Wales painted on top.
iPads’s were accessible in the classroom and a third group decided to use the app ’Glow draw’. They took photographs of objects from around the school and using the app transformed them into neon effect artwork. On day 2 the class teacher downloaded ‘Garage Band’ and an instrumental track was made in conjunction with the Devil & Dylan Thomas masks. The workshop generated a broad medium of work, which was greeted enthusiastically by all the children and staff in the class.
“I found the ‘mod rock’ interesting because I learnt a new skill and it was great fun to use”, said Alannah.
“It was really interesting to see the shape of our faces in the mud before using the ‘mod rock”, said Cameron,
“I really enjoyed using the iPad to do a variety of art works”, said Mitsi.
